Specification connectives focus or narrow the preceding statement. 'In particolare' (in particular) and 'nello specifico' (specifically) zoom in on a detail. 'Vale a dire' and 'ossia' (that is/namely) restate or define. 'Ovvero' (or rather/that is) can clarify or offer an alternative. Exemplification connectives introduce illustrations: 'per esempio' / 'ad esempio' (for example) are neutral; 'a titolo di esempio' is formal; 'si pensi a' (consider/think of) is typical in argumentative writing.
