Textual Cohesion — Coesione Testuale·Reference Ambiguity
💡

Rule reminder

Reference ambiguity occurs when a pronoun or anaphor could refer to more than one possible antecedent. In Italian, gender agreement helps reduce ambiguity (masculine pronouns → masculine nouns), but when two nouns share the same gender, pronouns become ambiguous. Writers must recognize and resolve ambiguity through repetition, synonymy, or sentence restructuring.
