Textual Cohesion — Coesione Testuale·Hyponymy and Lexical Fields
💡

Rule reminder

HYPONYMY is a semantic relationship where a specific term (hyponym) belongs to a general category (hypernym/superordinate). Example: 'pino' → 'albero' → 'pianta'. Texts use these relationships for cohesion: you introduce a specific term, then refer back with the general category (or vice versa). COLLOCATION CHAINS also create cohesion: words that naturally occur together in a semantic field (e.g., in a text about medicine: diagnosi, cura, guarigione, paziente, terapia).
