Textual Cohesion — Coesione Testuale·Ci and Ne as Reference Devices
💡

Rule reminder

'Ci' and 'ne' are two Italian particles that create cohesion by referring back to places, quantities, or ideas previously mentioned. CI refers to a place or a prepositional complement (a + place/topic): 'Sei stato a Roma? Sì, ci sono stato.' NE refers to a quantity or partitive element (di + thing): 'Vuoi del pane? Ne voglio un po'.' Both avoid repetition and connect sentences.
