Textual Cohesion — Coesione Testuale·Lexical Repetition vs. Synonymy
💡

Rule reminder

Lexical cohesion uses vocabulary to link parts of a text. Two main strategies: (1) REPETITION — repeating the same key term (useful for clarity, technical writing, or emphasis). (2) SYNONYMY — using synonyms to avoid repetition (preferred in literary and journalistic writing). The choice depends on register, clarity needs, and stylistic goals. Overusing either strategy weakens the text.
