Rule reminder

In the passive, perception verbs use 'essere + past participle': 'Mario è stato visto uscire' (Mario was seen leaving). Figuratively, 'vedere' can mean 'to understand/foresee', 'sentire' can mean 'to feel emotionally'. 'Udire' (literary) is a formal synonym of 'sentire' and follows the same infinitive construction.
