Rule reminder

Italian academic writing (scrittura accademica) has distinctive features: (1) nominalisation — converting verbs into nouns ('analizzare' → 'l'analisi di'); (2) avoidance of first person singular — use 'si' impersonale or 'l'autore'; (3) formal discourse markers ('in primis', 'si evince che', 'alla luce di', 'a tal proposito', 'si riscontra che'); (4) passive constructions; (5) long, complex sentences with multiple subordinate clauses; (6) hedged claims ('i dati sembrerebbero suggerire', 'si ipotizza che'). Italian theses use 'presente lavoro', 'la ricerca', 'lo studio' — never 'io'.
