Formal Register — Registro Formale B2·Register Mixing: Spotting Errors
💡

Rule reminder

Register mixing occurs when colloquial elements appear in formal texts (or vice versa). Common intrusions of colloquial language into formal Italian include: hedging words ('un po'', 'tipo', 'comunque'), contractions that are too informal, slang nouns or verbs, direct address ('tu'), and discourse markers from spoken Italian ('quindi dai', 'insomma').

Read this formal complaint letter extract and find the colloquial intrusion: 'Con la presente, ci pregiamo di portare alla Sua attenzione che il prodotto consegnato era, diciamo così, un po' rotto.'
