Rule reminder
In complex sentences, 'come se' can appear in subordinate clauses within larger structures. The subjunctive rule still applies: imperfetto for present unreality, trapassato for past unreality. Identify the main verb's tense to choose the right tense after 'come se'.
Il testimone raccontò i fatti in modo talmente dettagliato che sembrava parlare come se ___ lui stesso a commettere il delitto.
