Exceptive Clauses — Proposizioni Eccettuative·Restrictive Clauses — Purché and A patto che
💡

Rule reminder

'Purché', 'a patto che', and 'a condizione che' all mean 'provided that / as long as / on condition that'. They express a restrictive clause: the main clause is valid only if the condition is met. They ALWAYS take the subjunctive. They differ from exceptive 'a meno che' (unless): restrictive connectives state the condition for acceptance; exceptive connectives state the condition that would prevent it.
