Key distinctions: 'a meno che non' = unless (neutral, spoken OK); 'tranne/eccetto/salvo + noun' = except (noun follows directly); 'tranne/eccetto/salvo che + congiuntivo' = except that/unless (clause follows); 'fuorché' = except (literary); 'purché / a patto che / a condizione che' = provided that (restrictive, NOT exceptive).
