Rule reminder

"Malgrado" means "despite" and works like "nonostante": it can precede a subjunctive clause (malgrado facesse freddo) or a noun phrase (malgrado il freddo). It is formal/literary in register. "Malgrado che" + subjunctive also exists. It cannot be followed by the indicative.
