Rule reminder
'Anche se' (even if / even though) creates a concessive conditional: the consequence holds regardless of the condition. With a past/hypothetical meaning: 'anche se' + congiuntivo imperfetto/trapassato. 'Anche qualora' is the formal equivalent. These differ from 'sebbene/benché' (concessive without condition) because they stress the irrelevance of the hypothetical condition.
