Rule reminder

Idioms are completely fixed — even plausible synonyms destroy them. 'Fare bella figura' cannot become 'fare bella impressione'; 'essere alle strette' cannot become 'essere ai limiti'. When you learn an idiom, you must memorize each word exactly as it is — no substitutions are possible.
