Emphatic Structures — Strutture Enfatiche·Ben / Bene as Emphatic Intensifier
💡

Rule reminder

'Ben' (before consonants) and 'bene' (in other positions or standalone) function as emphatic intensifiers in Italian. Key uses: 'ben tre volte' (as many as three times / a full three times), 'ben prima' (well before / much earlier), 'ben inteso' (of course / needless to say — fixed phrase), 'ben altro' (something quite different / much more), 'ben più' (much more), 'è ben noto' (it is well known). Unlike 'molto' which quantifies, 'ben' adds emphasis to the adequacy, sufficiency, or surprising size of something.
