Rule reminder
Words formed with the same root can differ greatly in register. Formal/written Italian tends to use Latinate suffixes (-zione, -mento, -ità, -evole) and longer compounds. Informal/spoken Italian tends to use simpler words, diminutives, and -oso forms. Academic and legal texts use specific technical formations that are inappropriate in casual conversation.
