Rule reminder
At advanced B2 level, cleft analysis involves: identifying the type of cleft (standard, pseudo, extended, reverse, negative, stressed), explaining what is presupposed vs. focused, understanding discourse-level function (transition, contrast, correction, emphasis, topic introduction), and evaluating why the writer chose a cleft over alternative structures. Authentic texts often contain multiple focus strategies in sequence.
Text: 'Si discute molto di cambiamento climatico. Ciò che tuttavia si tende a sottovalutare è l'impatto psicologico sulle comunità colpite.' — What is the discourse role of 'tuttavia' in this pseudo-cleft?
