Rule reminder
Advanced hypothetical sentences can mix tenses across clauses: a past 'se' clause can produce a present consequence (mixed type). Additionally, hypotheticals can be embedded within other subordinate clauses, requiring careful tense management. 'Come se' (as if) always takes congiuntivo imperfetto or trapassato.
