Use NE when replacing: (a) partitive del/della/dei + noun, (b) di + topic. Use LO/LA/LI/LE when replacing a specific, definite noun (not partitive). 'Mangio del pane' → Ne mangio. BUT 'Mangio il pane che hai fatto tu' → Lo mangio.
